Cooperation between Slovenia and the League of Arab States
Slovenia has made important steps toward strengthening its relations with the League of Arab States with its seat in Cairo in the years 2010 and 2011. In resolving the humanitarian issues in the (Middle-East) region the Embassy established a close connection with the League of Arab States and in cooperation with the Office of the President of the Republic of Slovenia as well as some Slovenian and Egyptian companies accomplished projects of:
- delivering a shipment of Slovenian medicines that were distributed among the hospitals in Misrata, Lybia, April 2011;
- psychosocial rehabilitation of a group of 7 Libyan children from Benghazi, Misrata and Ajdabiya in the Slovenian mountain resort of Zreče, April 2011.
The League of Arab States supports Gaza children rehabilitation project in Slovenia. The project has been carried out under the auspices of the president of the Republic of Slovenia since 2009 at the University rehabilitation Center in Ljubljana. So far, 81 children received such treatment.
In May 2011 a memorandum on cooperation between the Slovenian (based) International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance and the Arab League of States was signed in Cairo.
The Embassy, in cooperation with the Slovenian International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance, initiated a telemedicine project for the Middle East by organizing the first joint Slovenian-Arabic conference that took place at the seat of the League of Arab States in Cairo in September 2010.
In May 2011 the Ambassador participated as a guest speaker in a conference on humanitarian aid for Libya that was hosted at the seat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
